A memorial service for Vernon Joe Coy, 69, of Tecumseh, will be at 2 p.m. today, July 1, 2020, at the Dawt Church of Christ with full military honors presented by Troy Herd American Legion Post 112 and a U.S. Navy detail, and Pastor Erman Croney officiating. Mr. Coy died June 26 at Harry S Truman Memorial VA Hospital in Columbia with his loving wife, Lynda, by his side. 

He was born Sept. 30, 1950, in West Plains. He was the son of William Coy and stepmother Ruth Coy, and Irene Thompson and stepfather Willard Thompson.     

Mr. Coy was a Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War. On Feb. 4, 2018, in Dawt, he married Lynda (Tilson) Gale. 

Mr. Coy enjoyed hunting and feeding the wildlife. He loved spending time with his wife and playing with his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife, Lynda, of the home in Tecumseh; two sisters, Trenta Wooten of Springfield, Arkansas, and Freeda Evans of Tecumseh; four children, Bianca Bauer of Wichita, Kansas, Russell Roby and wife Lacey, and Casey Gale and wife Jessica, all of West Plains, and Britney Evans and husband Brett of Ava; 12 grandchildren, Cooper, Corah, Austin, Daegin, Davyn, Brandyn, Brooklyn, Kaitlyn, Kayden, Claire, Emmett and MaryEmma; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents and stepparents; one brother, Ray Coy; one sister, Lisa Flenoy; and a niece, Jacque Howard.
