Scotty Eugene Newton, 57

Scotty Eugene Newton, 57, of Jefferson City, died Jan. 12, 2021, at his home. Private graveside services were held at Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City. He was born on July 28, 1963, at Memorial Community Hospital in Jefferson City, the son of Delbert E. and Maggie B. Smith Newton. He was a graduate of Dora High School and called various Missouri towns and cities home during his life. After high school, he owned and operated Miller Time Construction and worked as a carpenter for many years until injury and illness forced his retirement in 2007.   Mr. Newton was a member of American Legion Post 639 of Springfield, where he volunteered his time to help with multiple events including fundraisers, fireworks displays and other programs. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Masonic Lodge and the Shriner’s in Springfield. He could easily be described as the “life of the party” and loved to have a good time. He enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found on float trips on both Bryant Creek and the North Fork for the White River, fishing and deer hunting. Mr. Newton was a man of faith. He was baptized in Bryant Creek and found solace in spending time there when he needed to find peace. Some of his favorite memories included summer cookouts and other gatherings with his family. He was an avid sports fan. He coached his sons in baseball, played softball and rarely missed watching a St. Louis Cardinals or Kansas City Chiefs game.  He will be most remembered for having a big heart and for his dedication to the things that were important to him. Survivors include three children, Kaleb Newton and fiancée Kendra Heisinger of Jefferson City, Shannon Newton and wife Brianna and their two children, Kolton Newton of Dora and Emily Newton of Columbia, and Alisha Hughes and her two children of Colorado; his parents, Delbert and Maggie Newton of Jefferson City; one sister, Kathy Volkerding and husband Robert of Jefferson City; three nieces, Leslie Chiles and husband Dave and their children, Reece and Alex Chiles, Courtney Yake and her daughter Mia Yake, and Megan Cortez and her children, John and Sophia Cortez; two nephews, Brian Bloomer and wife Susan and their children, Livia and Luke Bloomer, and Aaron Newton and wife Lori and their daughters, Dakota and Megan Newton.
