Nova ‘Shorty’ Martin, 83

Graveside services for Nova Dwayne “Shorty” Martin, 83, of Dora, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020, at Ball Cemetery on Highway 181 south of Dora. He will lie in state from 5 until 8 p.m. today, July 29, at the Langston Street Chapel of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home in West Plains. Mr. Martin died July 24 at his home. 

He was born Jan. 11, 1937, in Dora, the son of Novie Andy and Flo Marie Hodgson Martin. On May 20, 1956, in Dora, he married Martha Ann Owen. 

Before his retirement, Mr. Martin was a lead man at SEI, now DRS, a heavy equipment manufacturer in West Plains. He loved music; it was always a huge part of his life. He was a bass player and had been a member of the Country Express Band since 1980. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, but his family was his passion in life. Mr. Martin was a member of Ball Church of Christ for 40 years. 

He is survived by Martha Martin, his wife of 64 years; one son, Doug Martin and wife Rhonda; son-in-law Victor Hambelton; four grandchildren, Kasey Hambelton and fiancé Ashton Shipley, Mandy Verplancke and husband Nathan, Brad Martin and wife Diana, and USAF SSgt. Adam Martin; five great-grandchildren, Brailyn, Andilynn, Reece, Cameron and Olivia; two sisters, Virginia Berry, and Charlotte Johnson and husband Lonnie; one sister-in-law, Sue Martin; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Anna Hambelton; one brother, Glaine Martin; one sister, Wanda Brown; and two brothers-in-law, J.R. Brown and Jay Berry.
