James ‘Jim’ Maddox, 76

A funeral service for James “Jim” W. Maddox, 76, of Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, formerly of Theodosia, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, Sept. 27, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs. Mr. Maddox died Sept. 23.

He was born Oct. 24, 1940, in Poplar Bluff, the son of Dena Lucille Sparkman and Deloy Floyd Maddox.  His life’s work was one of service to others. He was a pastor for over 50 years, including serving as pastor of Lighthouse Assembly of God in Theodosia. He was also a schoolteacher and guidance counselor for 30 years and worked several years at Lutie School.

He was a loving father who loved gardening, singing, painting and talking to everyone he met.

Mr. Maddox is survived by his wife, Ada Lee Maddox, whom he married Nov. 22, 1962; four sons, James “Kin” Maddox and wife Joanna of Springdale, Arkansas, Kurt Maddox and wife Dawn of Gravette, Arkansas, Tony Maddox and wife Charity of Rogers, Arkansas, Jaymon Lee Maddox and wife Kayla of South Carolina; two daughters, Kelley Lovelady and husband Mike of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Tasha Gibson and husband of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Tom’s wife Brenda of El Dorado, Arkansas; one brother, Jack Maddox and wife Karyl of New Mexico; one sister, Nancy Morris of New York; 30 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Tom Maddox; one brother, and one sister.

Burial will be Butler Creek Cemetery in Sulphur Springs.
