Ernest ‘Ernie’ Tucker, 77

Ernest ‘Ernie’ Tucker

A memorial service for Ernest Paul ‘Ernie’ Tucker, 77, of Springfield, was held June 16, 2020, at Greenlawn South Funeral Home in Springfield. Mr. Tucker died June 12 at Magnolia Square Nursing Home in Springfield.

He was born Sept. 17, 1942, in the back of his father’s barber shop in Richland; he was the son of Reed and Pearl Tucker.

He graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1960. On July 23, 1966, he married former Ozark County resident Carol Crownover, the love of his life. They were married nearly 54 years.

Mr. Tucker was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. While he held a variety of jobs, he was in the auto parts business for 42 years. While he worked a store manager for many years, everyone could always count on him to come open up the shop when needed.

He was a follower of Christ and served faithfully in many Southern Baptist churches throughout the years. He was ordained a deacon at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Everton, but a role he most enjoyed was that of Sunday school superintendent at Whiteville Baptist in Whiteville, Arkansas, Calvary Baptist in Marshfield, and Pleasant Hill Baptist in Everton.

Mr. Tucker loved animals, especially his cats. He also enjoyed feeding birds and was known to randomly stop and rescue a slow turtle making its way across the road.

He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Springfield; three children, Paul Kent Tucker and wife Tammy of Galena, Tina Tucker Munroe of St. Louis, and David Tucker and wife Vikkie of Holden; two brothers, Clifford Tucker and wife Sharon of Richland; Frank Tucker of Lebanon; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sharon; and his brother, Jack.
