Joe Strong was 10 months old in 1950 when he was admitted to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia for treatment of polio. He was there two months and wore leg braces for several years afterward. This photo was taken when he was 5. When he started school, his mother said, he tried to play ball with the other kids. When he fell down, “kids would want to help him up, but he would say no. He wanted to get himself up,“ she said.

The young mother was a little concerned that night when her 10-month-old son ran a fever and vomited.

Emergency workers were busy Friday with two Ozark County crashes within two hours

The driver of this Dodge pickup truck was arrested Friday morning, March 27, after fleeing the scene before authorities arrived. He was arrested a short time later, uninjured, after officers were made aware that he had active warrants from both Taney County and Kansas City. He was booked and released at the Ozark County Jail after officials in both areas declined to receive him amid COVID-19 concerns. Photo submitted.
