Remembering a Nottinghill schoolmate

I received the Ozark County Times on Aug. 4 and read that thing almost verbatim. I noted the obituary of Versia Clayton Robbins, which made no reference to any brothers or sisters Versia may have had, and I would appreciate your clarifying the matter.

In the 1933-34 school year, Versia and her brother, Sterlin, lived on the Claude Gaulding place about a half mile southwest of the Nottinghill store. They both attended Nottinghill School that school year. Then their dad, Robert, moved them back to Brixey in 1934. If I remember right, I believe someone in my family told me some 40 years ago that Sterlin had an accident or something and had died.

I met a grandson of a cousin of Robert’s while I was pastoring a church in Coweta, Oklahoma, about 30 years ago.

Thank you.

Editor’s note: We contacted Versia Clayton Robbins’ daughter, Connie Scherer, in Wichita, Kansas, and she provided the names of her mother’s seven siblings, which we will add to the online obituary. Mrs. Robbins, an Ozark County native, died July 22 in Wichita. She was preceded in death by her sister Alta Vaughn and by brothers Stirlin, Wherlin, Herlin, Louis B. and James Lee Clayton. Only her brother Harold Lee Clayton survives; he lives in Wichita.
