Big Bob's fishing report: Feb. 21, 2018

If we get the 5 to 6 inches of rain predicted this week it will have several positive impacts on fishing. First, it will start the walleye run up the rivers for their annual spawning run, and second, we need the water to get the white bass moving. The white bass are still a few weeks away, but this rain will add several inches to our low river systems.

Bass should be hitting crankbaits as well as jigs and the Bama rig. Fish the main lake points and the first half of the main creeks. If you can find some of the new brush piles the conservation department has put in, I have been told most are holding fish. Look for the usual signs or where they pulled trees off the bank. Numerous crankbaits will work this time of year, but the Spro Rock Crawler is hard to beat. With the chance of stained water, the fire tiger rock crawler should work well.

Crappie are still active, and live minnows are a good way of catching them. Chrome-head jigs, swimming minnows and small spoons are also effective.

This week we are running a 25 percent off special on all soft plastic baits. This includes plastic worms, grubs, salt craws and swim baits. Now is the time to stock up and save.some money.
