Bulldogs beat Fordland, fall to Mansfield

The Gainesville Bulldogs traveled to Fordland Wednesday, Feb. 7, and defeated the Eagles 59-48. Garrett Morgan led the scoring with 17 points, followed by Jaxon Britt with 12, Brandon Poe with 11, Brodie Chapman with 10 and Wyatt Wilson with 8. Wilson led in rebounds with 15. Brodie Chapman led in assists with 6.
“We played well as a team and really rebounded the ball well against Fordland,” said GHS coach Matt Powell. “I thought we did a great job defensively on Fordland’s two guards, which gave us a chance to win.”
The Bulldogs played a tough Mansfield team Feb. 9 and lost 69-40 to the Lions. Brodie Chapman led the scoring with 15 points. Garrett Morgan added 11, followed by Brandon Poe with 6, Jaxon Britt with 5 and Wyatt Wilson with 3. Wilson and Morgan led in rebounds with 6 each, while Poe led assists with 3.
“Mansfield is a tough matchup,” said Powell Tuesday morning. “They’re a really talented team playing well right now. We’re looking forward to Hartville tonight and districts versus Sparta Monday.” District tournament brackets can be seen on the Ozark County Times website, ozarkcountytimes.com.
Gainesville (15-8) takes on Sparta (9-13) at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, in the first round at Norwood. Seeding for the tournament is Mansfield, Hartville, Gainesville, Plato, Seymour, Sparta, Norwood, Fordland.
