Lady Lions beat Chadwick, Lutie

After a narrow loss to the Gainesville Lady Bulldogs, Bakersfield’s Lady Lions went on to defeat Chadwick last week in regular season play then beat Lutie in the first game of the Bradleville Tournament Monday.

The Lady Lions hosted Gainesville Thursday and lost by 3 points, 37-34. “The girls played hard,” said coach Brandi Moore. “We showed a lot of heart in the second half and came up just a little short.”

Freshman Ashton Yeager led the Lions’ scoring with 9 points, followed by Makenzie Lester with 8 and sophomore Andrea Yount with 7. Mariah Burnett aded 5, Shelby Summers chipped in 3, and Tiffany Daugherty added 2.

The Lions added a district win to their record when they defeated the Chadwick Lady Cardinals 46-42 Friday night.

“This is a big win for us,” said Moore. “The girls played really hard. We defended well. Mariah Burnett and Andrea Yount knocked down some big shots for us down the stretch.”

Burnett led the scoring with 15, followed by Yount with 14.

The Lady Lions traveled to Bradleyville Monday night and defeated Lutie in the first game of the tournament, 70-47. They take on Lighthouse Christian Academy at 3 p.m.Thursday and will take on host Bradleyville at 6 on Friday.
