Robersons celebrate 69th anniversary

Elmer “Curly” and Betty Roberson of Theodosia will celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary Dec. 11, 2017, during a Thanksgiving gathering with their family. Elmer grew up in Bible Grove, Illinois, and met his future wife when she was 13 and served him a chocolate milkshake while working at the soda fountain in the nearby town of Dietrick. They were married five years later, on Dec. 11, 1948, in Dietrick. In 1950, Elmer was drafted into the Army and served 11 months during the Korean War as a combat engineer operating heavy equipment on road-building projects. After being honorably discharged, he used the GI Bill to earn a degree from Indiana University. Later he worked for Marathon Oil Company, retiring at age 55. Betty typically canned 1,000 jars of food from their huge garden each summer. She has also crocheted more than 250 afghans and quilts. The Robersons moved to the Theodosia area more than 35 years ago when a friend in their Airstream Club recommended the area for its beauty and friendly people. Elmer has become well known in the area for performing patriotic songs at local gatherings. He recently sang “I Love You Truly” as he escorted his grandson Lucas Roberson’s bride, Juliana Lamb, down the aisle at their wedding. Their family includes five children: Cathy Clark and husband Michael of Murray, Kentucky, Marc Roberson and wife Denise of Powell, Wyoming, Dana Guerra and Lori Roberson, both of Springfield and Bruce Roberson of Casper, Wyoming. They also have eight grandchildren: Ryan Clark and wife Kristamarie of Kansas City, Ross Clark of Salt Lake City, Utah, Rhett Clark and wife Tori of Walton, Kentucky, Gianna Guerra and Daniel Guerra, both of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Kristyanna Roberson of Panama City, Florida, Cody Roberson and wife Melanie of Littleton, Colorado and Lucas Roberson and wife Juliana of Harrison, Arkansas. A ninth grandchild, Amanda Roberson, is deceased. Their great-grandchildren are Cayden, Tatum, Paxton and Laison Roberson of Harrison, Arkansas, Jayden and Joel Roberson of Panama City, Florida, and Brier Clark of Walton, Kentucky.
