Lady Lions get trio of wins

The Bakersfield Lady Lions took the consolation trophy in the Thayer Winter Classic this past week.

After losing to Couch in the opening round, the Lady Lions clobbered Cabool 72-38 and held off Koshkonong 66-50.

In the game against Cabool, Betsy Minkler scored 21 points, while Kody Smith netted 19 for Bakersfield. Kristin Marsh chipped in 13.

On Friday night against Kosh, Bakersfield had a commanding 34-22 lead at halftime and outscored Kosh 21-8 in the third quarter. Kosh outscored Bakersfield 20-11 in the fourth quarter, but Bakersfield held on for the win.

Betsy Minkler led all scorers with 22 points for Bakersfield, followed by Kristin Marsh with 16, Larissa Britt with 10 and Valerie Amerlan with 8.

The Lady Lions held on to win a close one at home Monday against Liberty, 55-51.

Bakersfield jumped out to a 15-8 first-quarter lead and led all the way to get the win.

Betsy Minkler led all scorers with 22 points. Also in double digits was Kody Smith, who netted 11 for the Lady Lions.

Meanwhile the Bakersfield boys' team fell to Gainesville Friday night at GHS homecoming, 63-26.

The BHS boys will travel to Thayer Friday while the Lady Lions host Lutie on Monday.
