The body of a man was found in a pond in Lakeview late Saturday night, according to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a press release, Baxter County Deputy Charles Menschik was dispatched to 579 River Road in Lakeview to a report of a body found in a pond on the property.
When the deputy arrived, the body was found floating face down in a shallow pond.
The man was identified as Robert Wayne Vannatter, 47, of Midway, Arkansas.
The preliminary investigation showed that the victim and the property owner, Karl Drzka, were mowing a neighbor’s property earlier that day.
The two had been planning on going fishing later in the afternoon and Drzka left to buy gas for the boat. When he arrived back to the property a little before 4 p.m. that afternoon, Vannatter was nowhere to be found, despite his motorcycle still being there.
After several hours, friends and relatives began searching for him and found him in the pond.
Due to the victim’s medical history, the condition of the body and circumstances surrounding the incident, there is no foul play suspected at this time, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Vannatter’s body is being sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock to determine the cause and the manner of death.
The investigation is ongoing.
