Theodosia Pharmacy will close Dec. 31

Theodosia Pharmacy will close Dec. 31, says owner Craig Atkins.

Theodosia Pharmacy, on Highway 160 in Theodosia, will close Dec. 31, says owner Craig Atkins. “In recent years, insurance compensation issues have created difficult challenges,” Atkins said in announcing the close. He also told the Times Monday that the business “just isn’t making enough margin for that small a store to stay in business.”

Atkins opened Court Square Pharmacy in Gainesville in 2000, and he opened Theodosia Pharmacy four years later. He declined to say Monday how the closing would impact employees or whether some of them might transfer to the Gainesville pharmacy. “I won’t go into that,” he said. “I don’t know yet.”

The announcement said that, starting Jan. 1, 2020, all patient files will be transferred from Theodosia Pharmacy to Court Square Pharmacy, and “customers with charge accounts are asked to continue making payments or pay their account in full” prior to Jan. 1.

“All charge accounts with remaining balances will be transferred to Court Square Pharmacy, where customers may continue to pay any or all remaining balances,” the announcement continued.

Atkins noted in the announcement that Theodosia Pharmacy has served the area for 15 years. Its customers have been loyal, “and it has been a pleasure to serve you,” he said. “We thank you for your support of our business throughout the years.”
