Searchers turn out quickly to search for missing 2-year-old near Wasola

When a call came in reporting a missing 2-year-old girl shortly before 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the Wasola area, deputies and first responders quickly reacted.

The little girl was found by law enforcement less than an hour later. As darkness fell, Ozark County Search and Rescue team members, along with Ozark County law enforcement officers and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers and personnel from Gainesville, Tecumseh, Wasola, Caney Mountain and Lick Creek volunteer fire departments, searched the area near the family’s home on County Road 129, off Highway 5, south of Wasola. The child’s mother told authorities the 2-year-old had strawberry blonde hair and was wearing a teal-colored shirt and a diaper.

While others were searching outside, two Ozark County deputies asked to search the home again, hoping to find something the child’s mother might have missed. At 9:14 p.m., they found the little girl, curled up and asleep in the home’s back bedroom.
