Recount in Ozark County Prosecuting Attorney race will be held today

The recount requested by Ozark County Prosecuting Attorney candidate John Russo after last week’s primary election will be held Thursday, Aug. 23.

When last week’s Ozark County votes were certified Friday, only eight votes separated Russo and incumbent Prosecuting Attorney John Garrabrant, with Russo receiving 1,063 votes to Garrabrant’s 1,071. Both candidates filed as Republicans. Russo filed the recount request with the Ozark County Circuit Clerk Becki Strong, and the case was assigned to Associate Circuit Judge Elizabeth Bock, who set the Aug. 23 recount date. Ozark County Clerk Brian Wise said two election judges, one Republican and one Democrat, will conduct the manual recount; 2,134 ballots were voted in the prosecutor’s race.

Wise said the recount will probably be completed in one day. He will give the results to Strong, who will relay them to Bock. It’s expected, but not certain, that the recount totals will be made public shortly after Bock is notified. When available, the Times will post the results at ozarkcountytimes.com and its Facebook page.
