Hootin an Hollarin Hillbilly 5K organizer Doug Hawkins, right, presents Abel Parker with a custom-made first-place overall trophy at last year’s race sponsored by Hawkins’ Shelter Insurance agency. The 3.1 mile race, billed as the county’s oldest 5K, begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. Walkers are welcome, along with joggers and runners. Hawkins also says it’s a pet-friendly event, so Fido is welcome to participate too. The entry fee is $20 for adults, $10 for kids and includes a race T-shirt designed by Gainesville’s Edge Vinyl designs. For more information, contact Hawkins at 679-3522 or see the registration form on page 9 of this week’s Times.
