Ozark County native takes new TV job in Des Moines, Iowa

Lakyn McGee

Ozark County native Lakyn McGee, a television reporter for KRBK Channel 5 Fox news in Springfield, has accepted a morning reporter position at WOI Local 5 TV in Des Moines, Iowa. McGee will be on the station’s “Good Morning Iowa” show from 4 a.m. to noon.

“I”m going to miss the Ozarks and especially Ozark County,” she said. “It will be hard moving away from family and friends, but I’m ready for this next step in my career. I spent two years as a reporter/anchor with Fox5 in Springfield. I’m sad to say goodbye, but I’m ready to welcome this new adventure.”

McGee’s official start date in Des Moines is Monday, Oct. 1. She will be producing, shooting, editing and anchoring her own stories. “I love being a ‘one-man band’ because that way I know what I get and how I want to tell the story. I love bringing stories to the public,” she said. “It was amazing to get to tell the stories of the Ozarks, but now it’s time to welcome a new area and tell its story. But you can best believe I’ll be calling my mom every day to make sure I don’t miss out on anything!”

McGee said her goal is to make it to the “Today” show someday. “With every move I make, I want to set an example for my younger siblings, Easton and McCartnie,” she said. “I want them to know they can do anything and be whatever they want as long as they keep a little Ozark County in their heart and take it with them wherever they go.” Lakyn McGee is the daughter of Shannon and Keith McGee of Gainesville.
