One man dies, others are injured in recent crashes

One Ozark Countian died and several area residents were injured in these recent crashes on roadways in or near Ozark County.

Mountain Home teen hospitalized  
Autumn McFarland, 16, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, was transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center after sustaining moderate injuries in a single-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol online crash report, the accident occurred as 44-year-old Stephen McFarland, also of Mountain Home, was driving a 1986 GMC pickup southbound on J Highway about 8 miles east of Gainesville at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, April 29, with Autumn in the passenger’s seat when the truck ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, went off the left side of the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned. Both occupants were wearing seat belts, according to the report. The vehicle, a total loss, was towed from the scene. The crash was investigated by MSHP Cpl. N. J. Britt assisted by Cpl. J. R. Roberts and Sgt. A. D. Johnson.

Bakersfield teen injured in Howell County crash
Logan Yeager, 19, of Bakersfield was transported by private vehicle to Baxter County Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home with moderate injuries after being ejected from his truck in an April 26 rollover crash near West Plains. According to the MSHP online crash report, Yeager was traveling westbound on Highway 160 about 5 miles west of West Plains in a 2006 GMC truck around 1:35 a.m. Thursday when the truck ran off the right side of the highway, struck an approach and overturned multiple times, ejecting him. Yeager was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the report. The truck, a total loss, was towed from the scene. According to the MSHP online arrest reports, Yeager was arrested at 2:45 a.m. for driving while intoxicated and careless and imprudent driving, involving an accident.
Dora man injured in two-vehicle crash
Larry Kerridge, 73, of Dora sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 1:58 p.m. Saturday, April 21, on CC Highway, about 12 miles west of West Plains in Howell County. The driver of the second vehicle, Velma Jones, 72, of Koshkonong, was taken by private vehicle to Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home with moderate injuries.
According to the MSHP crash report, Kerridge was pulling out of a private driveway onto CC Highway in a 2016 Jeep Patriot without yielding to Jones, who was driving a 2001 Nissan Frontier westbound on CC Highway. Both Kerridge and Jones were wearing seat belts, according to the report. The Jeep sustained extensive damage, and the Frontier was a total loss. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The crash was investigated by MSHP Cpl. T. E. Young assisted by Trooper D. L. Nash.

Pontiac man dies of injuries sustained in April 20 crash
Landon C. Barner, 79, of Pontiac died Tuesday, April 24, as the result of injuries he sustained in an April 20 crash on Highway 5 about 4 miles south of Squires in Douglas County. According to the MSHP online crash report, the accident occurred when 75-year-old Etta Barner, also of Pontiac, was traveling southbound on Highway 5 around 12:35 p.m. April 20 when the 2017 Toyota Sienna she was driving ran off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned. Both Etta and Landon were transported by Douglas County Ambulance to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, where Landon, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at 1:33 p.m., according to the report. Etta was wearing a seatbelt. The minivan, a total loss, was towed from the scene. The crash was investigated by MSHP Trooper A. R. Johnson assisted by MSgt. C. A. Hogue, Sgt. L. S. Elliott and major crash investigation unit #3. The crash marks the 11h fatality in Troop G this year.
