New sheriff

Cass Martin began his term as Ozark County Sheriff on Jan. 1, and one of the changes he’s making is to the  officers’ uniforms. Martin says sheriff’s deputies will now be sporting different black uniform pants and different patches on their uniform shirt sleeves. The new patches, pictured at right, feature the Missouri state seal. The old patches featured the Ozark County seal.

In a close  primary race last August, Martin defeated fellow Republican and former Sheriff’s Deputy Cpl. Curtis Dobbs with a vote of 1,563 to 1,415. After the primary win, he ran unopposed in the general election to claim the sheriff’s title. Martin replaces former Sheriff Darrin Reed, who served from 2012 until he retired December 31, 2020.

Martin, 35, lives in Dora with his wife Andrea and their four children, Branch, Isabelle, Jacob and Rhett.
