New chiropractic, wellness office opens in old hotel

Janet Martin, a chiropractic physician with 34 years’ experience, opened Maranatha Health and Wellness Centre Oct. 31 in the old hotel on the west side of the Gainesville square. Martin took early retirement from her practice in Florida due to neurological Lyme and auto-immune diseases. She and her husband, Gary, moved to Squires a few years ago. She believes God “delivered me from a wheelchair” and, while she was still suffering from Lyme and auto-immune diseases, led her to return to school to do post-doctoral studies in functional medicine, learning how to manage her diseases naturally. She uses her training in nutrition and functional medicine to help those who “want their body to be well but don’t want to mask their symptoms with medication – or those who aren’t responding to traditional medication.” She adds, “I don’t treat the disease, I treat the body.” She believes God led her to open a new practice in Gainesville, and she has bought the old hotel building and gutted the first floor to serve as her professional office. Maranatha Health and Wellness Centre will offer chiropractic services, massage therapy, nutritional therapy and acupuncture. Dr. Martin is also qualified to offer Department of Transportation exams for those seeking commercial driver’s licenses. The office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 pm. Tuesday and Friday, and from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays. Hours may expand later, if needed. For an appointment, call 679-0404.
