The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs hosted Mansfield Thursday, Jan. 21, and defeated the Lady Lions 53-46.

“This was a good conference game win for us,” said GHS coach Lance West. “We shot 52 percent from the field and out-rebounded Mansfield 24-9. We were able to get some big stops on the defensive end late in the game to help give us momentum offensively.”

Elizabeth Kinworthy and Shayla Wages led the scoring with 16 points each, followed by Hallee Donley with 8. Kinworthy also led the rebounding column with 7, while Erin McKinzie pulled down 5 and Donley snagged 4. Kinworthy led in assists with 6, followed by Donley and McKinzie with 3 each. Wages led in steals with 4.

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Mountain View Liberty on Monday, Jan. 25, and brought home a 56-37 victory.

“This was a good road win. We were fortunate to have gotten off to a fast start, outscoring Liberty 19-6 in the first quarter,” West said.

The Lady Bulldogs were able to hold on to that momentum and led by 16 at halftime. “We buckled down on the defensive end and executed well offensively, outscoring Liberty 20-5 in the third quarter, and led 50-19 after three quarters,” West said.  “I am very proud of our team’s effort on both ends of the floor over the last few weeks. These girls are starting to mold into the team I thought we could be.

“We just have to stay focused and keep working hard each and every day.”

Wages led the scoring with 31 points, followed by Kinworthy with 12 and Donley with 8.

The wins brought the Lady Bulldogs season record to 12-7, with a conference record of 1-0.

Their next game is at Thayer on Thursday, Jan. 28.
