Every day is drug take-back day at Ozark County Sheriff’s Office

Drug take-back day

Saturday, Oct. 28, is National Drug Take-Back Day, when residents nationwide turn in unwanted, expired or unneeded prescription or over-the-counter medications to law enforcement officers to be disposed of by the Drug Enforcement Agency. The Ozark County Sheriff’s Department has participated in the drug-takeback day in the past by operating collection sites in Gainesville and Theodosia, but this year will be different, says Sheriff Darrin Reed.

Because the sheriff’s office has maintained a drug take-back collection bin inside the lobby for several years, with deputies also responding to citizen requests to come to their homes and pick up unwanted medications, the sheriff said his department won’t have collection points outside the office this year. However, the sheriff’s office will participate in having the DEA representative collect the medications after the national take-back day so that they can be disposed of along with other medications collected throughout the area.

The collection bin is available in the lobby of the Ozark County Sheriff’s Office 24/7, Reed said. Those who can’t come to the office may call the sheriff’s office at 679-4633 to request that their medications be picked up at their residence.
