Commissioners list reimbursements made from federal CARES funds

Gainesville High School student Liz Kinworthy fills a water bottle at one of the new “touchless” water fountains the school purchased with money from the county’s allotment of federal CARES money. As a precaution to help prevent the spread of the covid-19 virus, students are encouraged to have their own water bottles, which can be filled by simply holding it in the designated spot on the new devices.

Ozark County Commissioners on Monday shared a list of the reimbursements that were made from Ozark County’s approximately $1.1 million portion of the more than $2 trillion in federal funds appropriated the by Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Stability (CARES) Act when it was passed by Congress on March 27, 2020. The allotment, which was based on the county’s population, was to be used to combat the impact of the covid-19 on residents here.

Money that was left unspent at the end of the year was to be returned to the federal government, but Ozark County Presiding Commissioner John Turner told the Times last month, “We spent every cent of it.”

The commission specified that agencies and entities requesting funds make the purchase or expenditure and then present receipts for reimbursement. Private businesses and business owners were allowed to present bills related to the forced closures mandated by Gov. Mike Parson during the statewide pandemic shutdown April 5 to May 4, 2020.

These funds, totaling $1,076,656.88, were paid from the CARES funds as reimbursements: Bakersfield R4 Schools, $102,784.41; Dora R3 Schools, $63,114.98; Gainesville R5 Schools, $232,723.51; Lutie R6 Schools, $32,948.24; Thornfield R1 School, $31,775.95; Ozark County Health Department, $74,945.16; Ozark County Ambulance, $148,041.33; Ozark County Fire Chiefs Association, $161,000; Ozark County Sheriff, $178,567.23; Ozark County Assessor, $12,000; Take 5, $3,025.41; Mischa Kastning, $1,607.00; Southern Roots, $1,281.16; Village of Theodosia, $2,748.43; Hammond Mill Camp, $9,787.07; The Center, $3,414.93; University of Missouri Extension, $695.01; general revenue fund, $16,197.06.
