Ambulance, Dora school levy increases pass, board members, mayor elected in April 3 election

Signs lined the door of the courtroom poling place in the Ozark County Courthouse during the April 3 General Municipal Election.

Ozark Countians passed an increase in the tax levy supporting its ambulance service in last week’s General Municipal Election, and Dora R-III School District voters agreed to renew its school tax levy with a 10-cent increase.
Only two of the county’s five school districts had elections for school board members, and in those two districts, the races were tight. After an initial tie, Bakersfield’s newest board member was elected by a single vote, and in the Gainesville school board race, only two votes separated one of the winners from her closest challenger.
Voters also elected members to village boards in Bakersfield, Gainesville and Theodoosia, and Gainesville residents re-elected their mayor.
Two three-year terms on the board of directors for Public Water Supply District No. 1 in Theodosia were filled without an election, as allowed by law.  Incumbent  Suzanne Meeks filed for re-electiwon; incumbent Alan Edgington did not. Ric Engelhardt  filed for Edgington’s seat. Because the number of candidates equaled the number of vacancies, no election was required.
