Lady Bulldogs open season with win over Seymour Lady Tigers
The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs, seeded fifth in the Summit Conference Tournament, defeated Seymour 8-2 in their first game of the season. “We played really good defense with zero errors,” said GHS coach Cody Swearengin. “Emily McKinzie did an excellent job pitching, allowing only 4 hits and walking 1.”
The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Hartville on Saturday to finish out the tournament and lost to number 1 seed Norwood 1-9. The Gainesville girls played Hartville for third place and ended up losing 6-9.
“Overall, I felt that we played really well for starting out the season and having a lot of new people in new positions,” Swearengin said. “We put the ball in play and never gave up. Erin McKinzie did an excellent job behind the plate, and I am really proud of how my juniors – Natalie Kiger, Blakely Morrison, Peyton Donley, Cassie Carlo, Madison Trivitt and Audrey Lovan – led by example and kept everyone in the game.
“Star Janes came in and pitched against some good teams and did a great job. Kady Lovan, Lori Ellison and Kylee Hayes played in positions where I expect great things to come from them.”
The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs’ next game is at Conway on Thursday, March 22
