Bulldogs defeat Cabool in season opener


Gainesville senior pitcher Brandon Poe had six strikeouts in 4.2 innings in the season opener comeback victory over Cabool Friday, March 16.

The Gainesville Bulldogs, down 7-0 in a cold, rainy seventh inning, rallied to beat Cabool 9-7 in their season opener Friday, March 16.
‘It was a great comeback win,” said GHS coach Jordan Savage. “Our guys showed a lot of heart and determination to pull that off. We had a lot of players step up at the plate. It was a great game to be a part of.”
GHS senior Brandon Poe pitched 4.2 innings, allowing 4 hits and 6 runs with 6 strikeouts. Tanner Jennings  got the win, pitching the final 2.1 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run with 3 strikeouts.
Cody Donley hit 2 for 3 at the plate, bringing in 1 RBI. Gavin Rowbotham was 2 for 3, hitting 2 doubles, bringing in 1 RBI. Ben Pointer was 1 for 2 with 1 RBI. Tanner Jennings was 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Brothers Noah and Jaxon Britt had identical hitting stats - going 1 for 4, with a double and 1 RBI each. Brandon Poe was 1 for 4 with a homerun, bringing in 2 RBIs.
Cabool had the bases loaded with two outs in the final inning, but Poe ended Cabool’s attempts when he caught a line drive and tagged second for the Bulldogs to take the win.
Monday night’s home game against Yellville, Arkansas, was canceled due to rain.
The Bulldogs hosted Dora Tuesday (results unavailable at press time), and will travel to Sparta Friday, March 23. The next home game is set for Tuesday, March 27, when Gainesville hosts the Mountain Grove Panthers.
