Big Bob's fishing report: May 16, 2018

Bass fishing is hit-and-miss on both lakes due to all the brush in the water. Top water has been working well in the mornings and evenings. Zara spooks and the jumping minnow by Rebel are both doing well. Spinnerbaits and rattle traps worked well during the White River Valley Electric Co-op tournament out of Theodosia recently.

As the water continues to warm, Carolina-rigged lizards, plastic worms and jigs will all work. Look for bass in 15 to 20 feet of water close to the brush.

Crappie are also in the brush and can be caught on live minnows, small spoons and chrome-head jigs.

If you’re looking for walleye, it’s time to start trolling. Live night crawlers on a bottom bouncer or deep-diving crankbaits will be your best bet.

Catfish are doing well on cut bait or night crawlers. Look for cats around flooded brush in 4 to 10 feet of water. Several big flatheads were caught last week in shallow water as they were looking for worms.

Our special this week will be 20 percent off all bait-casting rods and 25 percent off  all soft plastics. This sale will run through Saturday, May 19.

The state trooper tournament for Special Olympics is June 9. This is a good tournament for a good cause. Stop by for an application.
