Big Bob's fishing report: Jan. 24, 2018

Temperatures are back to normal, and it’s time to get back on the lake. Melting snow is adding cold water to the lake, so cold-water tactics for bass are appropriate. The Bama rig fished slowly in 20 to 35 feet should produce some fish. The jig will work and again needs to be fished slowly. Jerkbaits should bring a few fish to the boat, and if the temperatures warm, crankbaits may get the bank runners’ attention.

Crappie fishing has been better on both lakes than normal. Small spoons, jigs and live minnows are all working. Slider has come out with a 1/16-ounce jig called the Charlie Bee that has been working very well. Look for crappie anywhere you find some standing timber or over brush piles. The main lake standing timber has been producing numbers as well as big fish.

Big Bob’s is running several specials during the month of January. Fenwick HMG spinning rods, normally $100 are on sale for $69.99. All 10 packs of swimming minnows are $1 a pack, and all Berkley crankbaits are $4 each.

We just received a large order of sliders that are probably the number one white bass bait, and those fish are only a few weeks from their annual run.
