BIG BOB’S FISHING REPORT

Fishing has been much slower than usual for this time of year due to the weather. With warmer temperatures forecasted for this week, fishing should improve and take off. The big white bass will move in as water temperatures improve, and bass will begin to think about the spawn. Water temperatures have been 8 to 10 degrees cooler than normal, and if we can get a few warm nights in a row, it will get the fishing back to where it should be.
Bass fishing on both lakes will improve, and a variety of baits will work. Crankbaits, spinnerbaits and the shaky-head worm should all produce. Jig on the bottom and the Carolina-rigged lizard will also work. The lizard is in its prime during the pre-spawn and during the spawn. White bass will take small spinners like the rooster tail and sliders fished on a jig head. If the water warms, crappie should start to spawn in the next few weeks, and a swimming minnow is hard to beat. Live minnows work well on whites also.
Walleye are being caught on jerkbaits and live minnows. Jerkbaits with some color work better as walleye are attracted to colorful baits. We just stocked up on the right jerkbaits and have a good supply. This week we are running a 25 percent off sale on all spinning rods; this sale will run through close of business Saturday, April 14. We have a big selection, so if you’ve been thinking about a new spinning rod, now is the time to stop in and see our selection.
Several people have asked for night crawlers by the hundred. It will be awhile before my supplier has bulk packs of worms. My guess would be around the first of May.
