An antlerless-only portion of firearms deer season is scheduled for this weekend, Friday, Nov. 30, through Sunday, Dec. 2, in Ozark County.

During the three-day antlerless-only season, hunters in Ozark County, along with several other Missouri counties designated by MDC to be within the chronic wasting disease (CWD) management zone, can fill two firearms antlerless deer hunting permits. Resident landowners and lessees with at least 75 acres may harvest additional antlerless deer using a no-cost resident landowner firearms antlerless deer hunting permits.

To find out more about the antlerless portion of firearms deer season visit huntfish.mdc.mo.gov/huntfish/seasons/deer-firearms-antlerless.

The antlerless-only portion of firearms deer season was established to help harvest more deer in the counties within the CWD Management Zone as a way to limit the spread of the disease, according to the website mdc.mo.gov.

Archery deer season continues through Jan. 15, 2019. An alternative-methods portion of deer season will run from Dec. 22 through Jan. 1.

In Ozark County,  Scott and Zach McKinzie of McKinzie Taxidermy on County Road 518, off T Highway, near Mammoth Assembly of God Church, are registered to take voluntary CWD samples throughout deer season, until Jan. 15, 2019. Hunters who wish to submit their deer to be sampled by McKinzie Taxidermy should call 1-870-321-0379 or 1-870-321-3483 to make arrangements.
