Fundraiser to help Paul and Annette Lane set for June 16

Annette and Paul Lane

A benefit pie auction, potluck supper and silent auction event is being planned by friends, family members and neighbors to help Wasola-area residents Paul and Annette Lane, whose home was badly damaged by fire on May 13. The event begins at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Wasola Volunteer Fire Department firehouse on Highway 5 south of Wasola. Annette Lane serves on the WVFD board, and the couple’s son, Jeffrey Lane, is a volunteer firefighter.
Kellie Thomas and her mother, Kelly Thomas, are leading the efforts to collect donated items for the silent auction and also spreading the word about the event, which will feature live music performed by the Backyard Bluegrass Band. Mike and Sam Overturf will serve as auctioneers, and it’s hoped they will have plenty of baked goods and desserts to sell in the pie auction and also that appealing items will be donated for the silent auction.
“The Lanes are a staple in this community and are always there to help anyone in need,” Kellie said. Although they have insurance on the modular home where they’ve lived for 20 years – since another fire destroyed their previous home – “the insurance will not cover near the costs associated with the damage” the Mother’s Day fire caused, Kellie said. For now, the Lanes are staying with their son Jeffrey and wife Amber and their four young children. The fire, which is believed to have started due to an electrical problem in the kitchen of their home, did extensive damage to walls and ceiling areas and also caused substantial smoke damage throughout the house.
The potluck dinner and auction fundraiser event is open to everyone. To donate items or for more information call Kellie Thomas, 417-372-2677, or Kelly Thomas, 417-543-1727. Also, donations may be made to the “Benefit fund for Paul and Annette Lane” at any Century Bank of the Ozarks branch or mailed to the bank at P.O. Box 68, Gainesville, MO 65655.
