The event is free, but reservations are required for the event, which includes lunch. To register, call 870-508-1765 or email jbodenhamer@baxterregional.org.

Peripheral arterial disease is a life-threatening condition that affects millions of Americans by narrowing arteries and reducing blood flow to the limbs, according to the American Heart Association. The American Diabetes Association estimates that one out of every three people with diabetes over age 50 have the condition.

PAD may or may not cause symptoms, so it often goes undiagnosed, a situation that increases the importance of getting screened for those who are at risk for coronary artery disease, who experience leg pain when walking or have ulcers on the legs or feet. PAD sufferers are also at risk for lower-extremity amputation, particularly those age 50 and older, accofrding to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

The Jan. 29 event at RDLC features interventional cardiologist Dr. Patrick Tobbia and includes information about a free PAD screening.
