Absentee voting begins for Aug. 7 primary, July 16, 20 events set

July 11 was the last day to register to vote in the Aug. 7 primary election. Absentee voting for the August primary has begun, and two local events are planned this month to help voters gather information before casting their votes in the Aug. 7 primary election.
Registered voters who are unable to go to the polls on Election Day should contact the Ozark County Clerk’s office for the required application. Absentee ballots may be voted by mail or in person at the clerk’s office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. For more information, call the clerk’s office at 417-679-3516.
The Gainesville R-5 Board of Education will host an informational meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, July 16, about Proposition Gainesville Bulldogs, the district’s proposal asking voters to approve a 75-cent tax levy increase in the primary. The informational meeting will be held in the high school library following the school board’s regular public meeting at 6 p.m. Food and refreshments will be served. (See more about the proposed levy increase in the related story on this page.)
A "Meet the Candidates" fundraiser dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, July 20, at The Center on Highway 5 north at the Gainesville city limits. Candidates will speak and answer questions during dinner, which costs $8 and includes beverage and dessert.
The dinner is sponsored by a Thrivent Financial Action team in partnership with the Ozark County Senior Citizens Center Board.
