90 participants sign up for free CPR class here

Ninety participants have signed up for the free CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) class to be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at The Center on Highway 5 north at the Gainesville city limits.

Ozark County Ambulance administrator Stacy Raney, with support from Ozark County emergency management director Steve Ator, has organized the class, which will be taught by instructors from Air Evac. The effort came about after a story in the Times reported a near-drowning incident that almost took the life of a 1-year-old Tecumseh-area toddler. Ator and Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper John Roberts happened to be close to the toddler’s home when the emergency call went out, and they were able to revive the baby, who then was taken by ambulance to Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas, and then flown to Mercy Hospital in Springfield. The youngster has now recovered.

In case of inclement weather, participants should watch the Ozark County Times Facebook page for updates.
