Guidry is sentenced in abuse, meth case

Brandon Guidry

Thornfield resident Brandon Guidry, 35, pleaded guilty Jan. 9 before Circuit Judge Craig Carter to abuse of a child and possession of methamphetamine and was sentenced to three years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. The sentence was ordered to run concurrently with another case Guidry is facing in Louisiana, online court records indicate. It is unclear what charges are filed in Louisiana.
The charges stem from an Sept. 22, 2018, incident in which Guidry reportedly abused an 11-year-old child by repeatedly punching him in the face, grabbing the child by the shirt and raising him into the air to strike him in the face and then knocking him to the ground and continuing to punch the child.
According to the probable cause statement in the case, Ozark County Deputies Dustin Smith and Justin Urich were dispatched to a Thornfield-area residence at approximately 1 a.m. Sept. 22 after a woman called the Ozark County Sheriff’s Office and told a dispatcher that a physical altercation had occurred between Guidry and the child.
At the scene, the woman told the officers that at approximately 2 p.m. the afternoon before, Guidry and the child got into a verbal altercation over a bicycle. The woman said during the course of the argument, Guidry got enraged and punched the child in the face with a closed fist. She said he then picked him up by the shirt and struck him in the face again with a closed fist.
A second witness told the officers that Guidry then knocked the kid to the ground and began swinging at him with his fists, punching him over and over again. The woman said she separated the child and Guidry and told the child to go into the house. The woman said Guidry then told her  he would return to the house with a gun if the family didn’t leave the residence. She said he then got into a vehicle and left, traveling to his girlfriend’s house.
It’s unclear from the probable cause statement how – or if – Guidry is related to the woman and/or the child.
The officers met with the child and noted that he had a purple contusion on the left side of his chin as well as abrasions on his neck. Blood was coming from inside his mouth where the child said he had been punched.
Guidry was arrested and transported to the Ozark County Jail on Sept. 23 for questioning involving the reported abuse. The statement notes that Guidry was “very combative” during the process.
During the interview, Guidry admitted to hitting the child, saying he “popped him in the mouth.”
After his arrest, officers found a white crystalline substance on him that tested positive for methamphetamine with the Nar-Tec field testing device.
Guidry was originally held on a $75,000 cash-only bond. He was released on Oct. 23 with supervision by Court Probationary Services. A non-compliance report was filed by CPS on Nov. 12, and he was re-arrested on Nov. 14.
A note from Deputy Smith on the probable cause statement indicates that Guidry had access to weapons, has a record of being physically violent and had made threats toward family members. The family members reportedly expressed serious concern for their own safety and had said they believed Guidry would retaliate against them if he was released.
During his conversations with the deputies, Guidry reportedly told the officers that “none of this would be happening if it wasn’t for his mother and her husband.” He also reportedly threatened law enforcement officers multiple times and said he didn’t feel like he had anything to lose.
