Lutie School PTO holds activities

On April 22, Sampson Masonic Lodge #298 hosted a successful fundraiser breakfast for Lutie School’s Parent Teacher Organization, a group of parents and staff members who are working to raise money to help out with larger projects and everyday items that both students and teachers may need. PTO spokesperson Tracy Meal said, “With the generous help from the Masons we were able to raise enough money to give each graduating Lutie senior $25 this year and we have a small amount in the bank for a teacher appreciation luncheon in the fall. We enjoyed working with the Masons, even though it was an early start for most of us. The weather was cold and rainy, but they made it fun. We look forward to working with them again in the future. They are an important part of the community here in Ozark County.”

Lutie PTO also co-hosted a student art show this year on April 28 (see photo at right). Meal said the show feature artwork by students in grades kindergarten through 12.

“The art display was very diverse; many artistic mediums were used including concrete and tile, papier mache, dioramas, fairy gardens, 3D geometric models, collages and hand-drawn art,” Meal said. “It was a wonderful opportunity to see what the Lutie kids’ creativity and talent have produced this year. It was a great way to celebrate art at the end of the school year.” The art show was coordinated by PTO president Melissa Cockrum and staff member Brian Adams. Photos of the art that was displayed can be seen on the Lutie VI School District Facebook page.

The PTO has other plans for the upcoming school year, including a fall festival and an annual teacher appreciation luncheon in August. It’s also working toward obtaining new playground equipment, providing a small scholarship for a graduating senior, and assisting staff members with funding for much-needed classroom items they would normally have to buy themselves, Meal said.

Information about the PTO’s activities, meetings and how donations are used is share on the group’s Facebook page.
