GHS to offer students option of taking vocational classes at SCCC in West Plains

During the upcoming 2018-19 school year, Gainesville High School will offer the option for juniors to attend classes at the South Central Career Center in West Plains, district superintendent Jeff Hyatt told the Times last week. Bus transportation will be provided, and students may only enroll in classes not offered at GHS. The tuition cost is being provided, in part, by a private donation, he said.
Because SCCC is a two-year program, in the 2019-20 school year, both juniors and seniors may attend SCCC classes. Hyatt said currently 10 to 15 students have expressed interest in participating in SCCC programs such as auto body repair, carpentry, commercial and advertising art, culinary arts, machine tool technology and welding technology. The district is “ very excited to be able to provide this opportunity for our students,” he said, adding that Gainesville will continue to offer its own vocational programs at Gainesville, including auto mechanics and certified nursing assistant training. Students at some of the other Ozark County schools already participate in SCCC programs.
