Hoover hits buzzer-beater 3-pointer to seal Dora Homecoming victory

The Dora gym was packed with Ozark County basketball fans when the Dora Falcons hosted the Gainesville Bulldogs for Homecoming Thursday, Feb. 9. From the very beginning, the game was a nail-biter for both sides with the Bulldogs taking a 17-10 lead thanks to some hot shooting from the outside.
“In the second quarter, we changed defenses and came back to take a 29-24 lead before the half,” said Dora coach Rick Luna.
The teams traded the lead back and forth through the entire second half, with Gainesville taking a one-point lead with 14 seconds left on the clock.
“We took a timeout but didn’t hit our first option,” said Luna. “But then, Tanner Hoover stepped up and shot a 3-pointer from about 25 feet to win the game at the buzzer. It was a great homecoming win in front of a packed house.”
With a final score of 60-58, players scoring for Dora were Austin White and Kaleb Harris with 16 each, Brent McKemie with 9, Tanner Hoover with 7 and Davin Hambelton and Robert Vigdal with 6 each.
Players scoring for Gainesville were Brodie Chapman, with a game-high 20 points, followed by Garrett Morgan with 15, Jaxon Britt with 14, Kenny Grisham and Wyatt Wilson with 4 each and Brandon Poe with 1. Wilson led Gainesville in rebounds with 5, while Poe led in assists with 5 and steals with 3.
