Gainesville High School Academic Team sweeps Fordland

The Gainesville High School Academic Team recently competed in Fordland, where both the varsity and junior varsity won their matches. “The team is having another incredible season,” said assistant coach Raymond Gross.  “I have no doubt that Fordland is our strongest conference opponent and – on the strength of another stellar performance by Thomas Pointer – we swept them.  The team is really performing well.”
The varsity team, made up of members Thomas Pointer, Brianna Moray, Eli Amyx and Madison Trivitt,  won the first game 410-290, and the second 530-130.
The junior varsity team of freshmen also won both matches –the first game by 180-140, and the second by 530-130.
Gainesville’s JV team members are Abby Milligan, Ben Pointer, Hunter Webb and Zack Matthews.
“I encourage anyone interested to come out and watch us at either conference or at districts,” said Gross. “I guarantee that they’ll walk away impressed with the academic prowess of these young men and women.”
The Conference Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Feb., 4 at Fordland.  Another opportunity for spectators is when the Gainesville team hosts Conway on Friday, March 3. Districts are set for Saturday, April 8, at Gainesville.
“We’ve qualified for the National Academic Quiz Tournament again,” said Gross. “I am excited to see just how far this team can go.  I am willing to bet that I am not the only one who would like to see another banner go up in the school gymnasium.”
