Gainesville girls take third in WP tournament

The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs competed in the West Plains tournament Saturday, Sept. 12, and came home with a third-place trophy. “The girls are doing a better job of putting the ball in play and being aggressive on the bases,” said coach Morris Jenkins.
Gainesville faced a tough Marshfield team and lost, 5-6. Madison Strong, Michia Jenkins, Aspyn Britt, Morgan Taber and Emily McKinzie had two hits each. Jenkins racked up 2 RBIs, while Strong and Katelyn Brantingham each had 1. Strong scored three runs for the Bulldogs.
Abby Britt hit an inside-the-park homerun in the seventh inning to seal a 3-2 win over East Carter in the second game of the tournament. Strong scored two runs, while Brantingham and Abby Britt each had an RBI.
Brantingham took the mound in the contest for the third-place trophy and shut out Willow Springs, allowing no runs and only 6 hits.
Aspyn Britt had four hits for Gainesville, and Jenkins and Taber had two each. Brantingham, Abby Britt, Jenkins, Aspyn Britt and Taber had one RBI.
 “Our pitching and defense were solid, and it was a good all-around team effort,” said coach Jenkins.
