Falcons win districts, are ranked #1

The Dora Falcons last week became the top-ranked team in the state in Class 1 according to the final poll by the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association.

The Falcons were ranked second in an April 29 MHSBCA poll.

Dora began play in districts on Monday at Bakersfield and pummeled the Lutie Indians 20-0. The Falcons had beaten the Indians four days before by a score of 10-0.

On Wednesday, the Dora squad beat Norwood 3-2 in extra innings to win the district championship and advance to the state tournament.

The Falcons, 23-1 on the year, have outscored their opponents 244-48. Dora has shut out its opponents in 10 games this year.

The Falcons are setting their sights on the state championship, a feat accomplished two years ago by an aggressive Dora team.

Meanwhile, the Gainesville Bulldogs ended a successful season on Monday in district action against Mansfield as Mansfield defeated the Bulldogs 7-1. Gainesville ended with a record of 11-11 on the year.

In district action at Bakersfield, tournament-host Bakersfield was ousted with big bats by Galena as the Lions were hammered 21-0.

Individual stats were unavailable from all the district games.
