Dora boys take first at Domino’s Basketball Classic tournament

Ozark County teams made a good showing at the 12th annual Domino’s Basketball Classic junior high tournament last week. The Dora boys took first place; Bakersfield girls took second, and the Dora girls won third.
Saturday’s action kicked off with the girls’ battle for third place, with Dora taking on Glenwood and holding on for a 37-26 victory. Dora jumped out to a 19-8 half-time lead behind the game-high 15 points from Cassidy Hambelton.  Glenwood made a run in the fourth quarter, led by Emalee Brashear 10, and Maddy Kerley 6, but Dora held off the Mustangs to take the win, 37-26. Dora’s scorers behind Cassidy were Kaitlin Hambelton 10, Keena Lowe 8, Riley Collins 2, and McKenna Miller 2.
In the boys division, the Alton Comets took home the third place trophy after defeating Fairview, 60-34.
The Bakersfield Lady Lions took on Fairview for the championship, but Fairview jumped out to an early lead of 9-2 at the end of the first quarter, and Bakersfield couldn’t catch up, and lost the game, 35-23.
For the third consecutive year, the Dora Falcons made it to the championship game, having won the last two tournaments. The Dora boys played the Richards Rockets. “We jumped out to a big lead early,  really pushing the pace with our defensive pressure,” said coach Rick Luna.
Bryson Luna led the way for Dora, scoring a game high 27 followed by Mason Luna 14, Auston Luna 13, Waylon Masters 4, Colby Collins 3, Bo Collins 2, and Gavin Martin 2.
“We shot the ball very well, but most of our shots were created by our defense.  This was probably the best all-around game we have played all season,” Luna added.
The Rockets were led by Isaac Henry 13, followed by Gannon McGinnis 6, Scottie Osborn 5, and Colby Hoover 4. Dora won 65-28.
