Two women given suspended sentences and probation for methamphetamine possession

Clever resident Hailie J. Spears, born in 1997,  pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and was given a suspended imposition of sentence before Circuit Judge Craig Carter during the Dec. 8 session of Ozark County Law Day. She was placed on supervised probation for a term of 5 years.

The case is in connection with a Nov. 9, 2020, traffic stop of a Yamaha motorcycle on Highway 5 in Noble. According to the probable cause statement in the case, prepared by Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper Jason Philpott, the officer stopped the motorcycle for speeding, traveling 73 mph in a 60 mph zone.

Spears was reportedly riding as a passenger. The officer ran the driver’s name and Spears’ name through the law enforcement database, and it revealed Spears had active warrants.

The officer told both suspects that he was placing them under arrest. He asked if they had anything illegal on them, and they both said they did not; however, when the officer searched Spears he found a methamphetamine pipe wrapped in a bandana located in a red backpack she was wearing. An unused new smaller glass smoking device was also inside the bag, the report says.

Brittany Davis - methamphetamine

Pomona resident Brittany N. Davis pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance pursuant to a plea agreement during the December 8 session of Ozark County Law Day.

She was given a suspended imposition of sentence and placed on supervised probation for a term of four years. As part of the agreement six counts of stealing a firearm were dismissed.

The drug case is in connection with a Jan. 8 traffic stop in which Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper N. Vines stopped a Ford Mustang in which Davis was riding as a passenger.

The officer first found marijuana and a glass smoking device. He searched the vehicle and found three syringes and a plastic bag with a blood-soaked piece of cotton in the lid.

Both Davis and the driver denied owning the items.

Upon further searching, the officer found  “black metal grinder with marijuana residue inside the center console, two smoking devices containing marijuana residue on the floorboard behind the driver’s seat, a pillowcase in the back seat with approximately two dozen unused syringes, a multi-colored silicone container with marijuana wax residue on the floorboard behind the driver’s seat, one set of brass knuckles in the floorboard behind the driver’s seat, a pair of coveralls in the trunk with multiple unused syringes in the pockets and two black digital scales with marijuana residue inside an ammunition can in the trunk,” Vines wrote in his report. The pair were arrested.

At the jail Davis was searched, and a female officer found that she had concealed a folded-up piece of paper containing a white crystalline substance that resembled methamphetamine.
