Lions win, Lady Lions out

The Bakersfield Lions picked up a win in the first round of the Class 2 District 10 tournament against Plato, 71-67. The Lions were scheduled to play Norwood in the semifinals as the Times went to press Tuesday night. Look for results from that game in next week’s edition. Norwood is ranked #1 in the state in Class 2.

In the win over Plato, Bakersfield’s Ethan Cotter led the Lions in scoring with 26 points, followed by Mason Bean with 17 and Jake Freiman with 14. Trace Luna netted 7 for Bakersfield, while Robbie Luna had 3 and Hunter Lashley and Morris Collins each scored 2.

The Plato game wasn’t the only big game for the Lions last week. They also picked up a win against Winona in a double-overtime thriller, 96-86.

Ethan Cotter poured in 38 points to lead Bakersfield. Jake Freiman netted 19 for the Lions, while Trace Luna scored 15. Others scoring for Bakersfield were Hunter Lashley, Mason Bean and Robbie Luna with 8 apiece.

The Bakersfield Lady Lions beat Plato in the first round of the district tournament on Saturday, 55-48, and were defeated by first-ranked Dora Monday night, 54-41.
