Bakersfield Lady Lions prep for district action

The Bakersfield Lady Lions dropped to 17-5 after losing two games to state-ranked teams this past week in the Seymour Tournament.
Coach Doyne Byrd said it won't get any easier for his team as they head into the Class 1 District 4 tournament next week at Branson Middle School.
Bakersfield is seeded second in the tournament behind Verona, who is currently ranked third in the state. The Lady Lions will play seventh-seeded Lutie at 6 p.m. Monday. The winner of that game will play on Thursday and will take on the winner of the Exeter/Koshkonong game.
Talking about his team's losses last week, Byrd said his team needed tough opponents to get them ready for the district tournament.
"We won't  see two teams any better than Seymour and Fordland for a while," Byrd said. "Those are the types of teams you need to play this time of year to get better."
In the opening round of the Seymour Tournament, the Lady Lions picked up their third win of the year against intra-county rival Gainesville, beating the Lady Bulldogs 75-70.
In the second round of the tournament, Bakersfield lost to Seymour, 92-66. In the third place game, Bakersfield stumbled again, losing to Fordland, 84-55.
