Bakersfield Lady Lions beat Mansfield Monday

The Bakersfield Lady Lions traveled to Mansfield Monday night and brought home a 56-38 win.  A second-quarter push brought the Bakersfield girls back from a 4-point deficit to give them a 28-18 point lead at halftime.  “We’ve done a good job staying motivated to improve despite some tough losses,” said coach Doyne Byrd. “Hopefully our success at Mansfield will help us continue to improve.”
Syrena Carter was on fire, making 100 percent of her shots from the field; she led the scoring with 19 points for the Lady Lions. Destiny Johnson was also 100 percent from the field, scoring 13 points. Liela Tefft added 8 points, followed by Jacelyn McCormack with 7. Mariah Burnett chipped in 5 points and led in rebounds with 12 while Kenzie Lester added 4 points.
McCormack led in assists with 7, and Destiny Johnson led in steals with 4.
Friday, Dec. 18, the Lady Lions crossed the state line to play Norfork, Arkansas, and despite a hard fight, they lost to the Lady Panthers, 59-40. “We competed hard, but couldn’t overcome the offensive rebounds we gave up and unforced turnovers,” said Byrd.
Mariah Burnett led the Bakersfield efforts with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Syrena Carter added 8 points, followed by Jacelyn McCormack with 7. Destiny Johnson chipped in 5, Kenzie Lester had 4 and Liela Tefft added 2 points.
