23 careers represented at GHS Career Day

Gainesville School held career day for ninth- through twelfth-grade students Thursday, Oct. 22. The event, organized by GHS teacher Esther Strong, included short discussions and workshops about different professions from area employees. Students were allowed to choose four professions that interested them, and they attended the coordinating workshop.
The speakers included Nikki Guthrie, teaching; Jim Lane, aeronautics; Sen. Mike Cunningham, politics; Rep. Lyle Rowland, politics; Mindi Lawson, nursing; Levi Oxley, welding; Cpl. Jim Britt and Cpl. Amy Johnson, Missouri State Highway Patrol; David Pointer, attorney; Rose Marthis, journalism; Sgt. Anderson, US Air Force; Penny Britt, social work; Phil Hamm, management; Brett Evans, mortician; Anne Kimbrough, physical therapist; Tyler Headrick and Dan Schmucker, electrical co-op lineman; Craig Atkins, pharmacist; Jimmy Wynn, mechanic; Molly Collins, cosmetologist; Jerry Kiger, conservation agent; Keith Herd, farrier; Robin Deck, veterinarian; Karla Smith, photography; Kyanna West, forensics; John McKinzie, radiology; and Whitney Wharton, Andrew Landers and Abbi Harlin, recent graduates.

<p>Missouri State Sen. Mike Cunningham took part in the Gainesville High School career day Oct. 22. Cunningham and several other area professionals gave the high school students information on a variety of different occupations.</p>
